Several earthquakes reported in south Reno

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that several earthquakes shook south Reno. The strongest Tuesday evening quake was a 4.4 magnitude.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory says the epicenter was 3.5 miles north of Galena High School and people throughout Reno reported feeling the quakes.

The Southern California Earthquake Data Center reports that the earthquakes started at 6 p.m. Tuesday and the strongest happened around 10:45 p.m.

The Nevada lab says two 3.1 magnitude quakes bookended the biggest one.

The Reno area is seismically active, with multiple hot springs that are used for power generation.
